Veteran Family Gets An Exterior Upgrade

Our July Restoring Comfort project focused on exterior home repairs for a local Veteran family. The home we worked on is a family hub for generations of the Ford family, who settled in Colorado Springs after being stationed all over the world.

Father Chuck Ford, served in Vietnam and Desert Storm, and Mother Sally Ford served in the Women’s Army Corps back when “they taught classes on how to do your makeup to go with your uniform”.

The family ran a local trophy business while raising their 4 kids and, later in life, a foster child. Sally now has 15 grandkids and 7 great grandchildren who regularly gather at her house for holidays, sleepovers, or just grandma-time. She also has a constant companion in Panda, whom she calls her "grand-dog".

When Chuck got sick from complications from his service, the holiday decorations and home repairs he’d always managed went on the back burner. Unfortunately, he passed away recently and the repairs were more than the family could handle on their own.

Focus on Family Safety

The Fords’ eldest daughter learned about our new Restoring Comfort program on a Loving Living Local interview and nominated her mother. She was concerned that the sagging, rotting porch was a danger but the estimates they’d gotten for repairs were just too costly. We were happy to be able to step in and handle repairs to the front and back porches for free. These exterior upgrades make a big difference in the comfort and curb appeal of the Fords' home.

Now the family can once again gather at grandma’s without any concern for their safety, and Sally can enjoy her coffee on the front porch with her snuggly sidekick, Panda. 🐶

Do you know a Colorado Springs neighbor or family member who needs help making essential home repairs? Visit our Restoring Comfort page to learn more and nominate someone in your life. Nominations are always open and we perform a minimum of 1 project per month.
